Major Duties:

Provide expert advice and counsel and serves as primary consultant to the agency on compliance issues in their area of expertise. Identify areas that merit special evaluation by the SEC. Provide authoritative analysis and guidance based on their specialized expertise. Plan, organize, and carry through to completion, analytical studies of a breadth and intensity requiring subject matter expertise and in-depth subject matter knowledge. Create and direct the production of workable solutions involved in the analysis of data.



Conduct or direct difficult and sensitive compliance examinations that are broad in scope, such as of entities that are engaged in novel investment strategies or innovative practices.



Serve as a consultant and advisor providing support to the agency in carrying out high-level, high-visibility and sensitive assignments frequently requiring immediate action and in developing and conducting communications with the securities officials both within and outside the SEC. Serve as a national resource for SEC in areas related to their expertise. Lead examinations, investigations, or reviews of national and international significance.




Lead, advise and participate in risk-based examinations of registered securities firms and clearing agencies on issues relevant to their area of expertise, including, as applicable, securities trading; portfolio management and/or hedge fund management; options, derivatives and other complex products; valuation of securities; forensic accounting/internal auditing; and/or risk analysis.



Serve as the subject matter expert on issues relevant to their expertise as a member of an exam and other cross-functional teams. Consult with management officials both at Headquarters and in the regional offices. Participate in the decision-making process regarding exceptionally complex, far-reaching, or sensitive compliance problems encountered during examinations.






Qualifications:

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education. Grade 16: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/SK -14 level. Specialized experience is demonstrating mastery knowledge of, one or more of the various US clearing organizations, including how they operate, the products that they service, the nature of their interactions, and the risks to which they are subject (due, for example, to their regulatory climate, or lack thereof, and the nature of the securities which they service and/or the participants which are their members).
